The questions:
How could I use TiddlyWiki for tallying scores for board games ?
AND
Once I have such a TiddlyWiki instance, what else could I use it for ?
For Christmas, my kiddo bought me a copy of the Wingspan board game.
What a beautiful game. The production quality rocks.
However, if you have poor eyesight...
- Many of the cards have black text on a brown background, and the text is hard to read. (I can get by, though, with a magnifying glass that has a built-in light.)
- The score sheets (the row headers) are almost impossible to read because of lack of contrast: gray text on a light-purple background.
End-of-game scoring is also a bit of a pain. Some of the scoring items can involve significant calculations that won't fit on the small score sheets, and can be prone to mistakes when done in one's head. Although the calculations might be a fun "brain-age" kind of exercise otherwise, I do not enjoy doing math as part of a game session.
End-of-game scoring being the biggest problem to solve, it did not take long for me to think: "this sounds like a fun TiddlyWiki project.
And if I'm going to build something with TW for Wingspan, why not build something that can help with end-of-game scoring for all of my games?
And why not use such a TW instance for tracking history and statistics of all played games ?
And why not use such a TW instance as an inventory tool for all the games I own?
